Defining Us is a special series for Crooked Conversations where contributors Julissa Arce and Grace Parra explore and celebrate the Latinx experience in the United States in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. In the first of four conversations, the hosts discuss the history of Latinos in the US.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions issued new rules regarding asylum seekers Monday. Sessions said that most victims of gang violence and domestic abuse will not qualify for asylum. Julissa Arce, a political commentator and author of "My (Underground) American Dream: My True Story as an Undocumented Immigrant Who Became a Wall Street Executive" joins CBSN to discuss the decision and her experience as an undocumented immigrant living in the United States.
The WH released a plan that would provide a path to citizenship for 1.8 million dreamers. The problem with the plan is that it attaches $25 billion for funding the wall, and makes drastic cuts to legal immigration. This is not a plan that is compassionate or upholds American Values.

Jon, Jon, Tommy and Julissa Arce break down Trump's border speech.

Julissa shares her story of living as an undocumented immigrant and how she was able to overcome challenges to obtain a college degree. She questions what it really takes to be an American. Julissa Arce is the director of development at Define American, an organization that uses the "power of story to transcend politics and shift the conversation around citizenship."

I went on the Tucker Carlson Tonight show to discuss immigration, the border, and as an American Citizen, I too get to voice my opinion.

The immigration "line" does not exist. I went on CNN to discuss.

I addressed the topic of in-state tuition for undocumented students and why it does not take anything away from American Citizens-- even those which have to pay out-of-state tuition. The new rule which caps the percentage of out-of-state students to 18% in the UC system is not intended to keep U.S citizens out, but rather to serve California residents.

Julissa Arce delivers Pasadena City College Commencement Speech.

What does an undocumented immigrant look like? What kind of family must she come from? How could she get into this country? What is the true price she must pay to remain in the United States? Julissa Arce's new book, MY UNDERGROUND AMERICAN DREAM is available in bookstores everywhere.
